2019 Technology Fundraising Campaign

The Curley School Parent Council is working with Principal Grassa to raise $25,000 by the end of 2019 to upgrade and replace computers on the school’s 22 laptop and tablet carts. Help us increase all Curley students’ access to technology that they may develop essential 21st century skills.

Our goal is to maintain the 2:1 student to computer ratio for students and support the schools’ overall vision of ensuring high-quality, equitable learning for all through creative use of technology.

Please consider a tax-deductible donation to Friends of the Curley K-8 in support of this important initiative.

Donate using PayPal at PayPal.me/CurleyK8 or send in cash or check to your child’s teacher or mail it to 40 Pershing Road, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130 Attn: Curley SPC.

Please make checks payable to: Friends of the Curley. If your company has a matching gifts program, our tax ID is 46-3480428.

Caregiver Volunteers Needed to Lead School Preview Tours

It’s school preview time again when prospective families come to tour the Curley!

For many years, parents have played a significant part in showing the school to other parents, and the Curley is noted for our level of parent participation at these tours. Many of you may remember your own tour of the Curley. Now as a member of the Curley community we would love your help as tour guides.

New families are encouraged to participate as you give the most valuable feedback to incoming parents. Don’t worry if you feel like you don’t know the school yet – we’ll pair you up with a parent who has done tours in the past.

The schedule for the preview tours at the Curley this year are:

  • Thursday, December 5th 9-10am
  • Thursday, December 12th 9-10am
  • Thursday, January 16th 9-10am

If you are able to help out leading tours on at least one of these dates or even if you can not help out on this years’ dates but would like to help out with tours in the future, please email Arusha Hollister at arusha_h@yahoo.com.

We greatly appreciate any help you can give!

International Week at the Curley: Monday, December 2nd–Friday, December 5th

International Week is an annual celebration and exploration of countries around the world. Each K2-8th grade class learns about one country, and students get their Curley Passports stamped as they “travel the world” by visiting specialists and buddy classes. Ask your child’s teacher how you can help!

Internet and Social Media Safety Family Engagement Workshop: Thursday, December 5th

In an effort to promote healthy and safe online experiences for students, this workshop will be offered at the Curley on Thursday, December 5th from 6-7:30pm and will feature the critical topic: Internet & Social Media Safety.

This workshop will feature Jackie Lamont, Forensic Interviewer and Director of Youth Safety and Outreach in the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office. Jackie will share tips and strategies so that you can incorporate their internet safety programming “STOP, BLOCK and TALK“ in your school community. STOP BLOCK and TALK is a program of Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins for youth, parents, and professionals to ensure that everyone understands the risks that exist online for kids.

Target Audience: Parents & Guardians | Content Grade Levels: 3-8

Principal Breakfast—Having the “Talk:” Friday, December 6th

Join BPS Health Education Director, Cheryl Todisco, on Friday, December 6th from 8:45-9:45am for an informational session highlighting Boston Public School’s comprehensive skills-based Health Education program.

Current adolescent attitudes, beliefs and behaviors about sexuality and relationships will be presented, along with an overview of Boston’s Sexual Health Education curriculum. Parents will learn and then practice the top ten tips for talking with their students about sexuality along with strategies that empower youth to make healthy choices. BPS recognizes the role of parents/guardians as the primary health educators of their children and wants to ensure that parents/caregivers have the information needed to have these important conversations.

Target Audience: Parents & Guardians of elementary and middle school age children

From the School Nurses: Health Physicals & Immunization Records

Every child at the Curley must have a physical from within the last two years on file in the nurse’s office. Unfortunately, if your child does not have a physical on file, they will not be allowed to attend field trips or school outings due to the health risks.

We are also asking parents or guardians to submit updated immunization records as the state Massachusetts department of health will be reviewing our files as well.

If your child requires medication in school as an asthma inhaler or an epipen for allergies and you have not contacted us about this already, please call the nurse’s office at 617-635-8239

Volunteering at the Curley

All volunteers need to complete and pass a CORI check prior to volunteering at school. CORI forms are submitted online only. After submitting please show the main office a copy of your picture ID. It can take up to 2 weeks for approval one the form and ID have been submitted.

Here is the online link for the CORI Forms.
