Guidance Team April Newsletter

Hello Curley Community,

We want to welcome everyone to the month of April but we also know that this is a difficult time for all of us, including the guidance team. Between health concerns, financial stress and the challenges of staying at home (especially with multiple, bored kids!) this month is likely to be challenging for a lot of our families and we want to remind you that it is completely ok to acknowledge how hard it might be.

By now, we hope that many of you have accessed the numerous academic and day-to-day life supports that Curley and the Boston community have been providing to families. Links to many of these resources are also copied below.

As so much energy has (rightly) been focused on logistical resources so far, though, we want to use this space today to spread some joy and positivity when it comes to spending time at home with family. While there are a number of activities available through phone apps, video communication and other technology, we also wanted to give you all a few ideas for fun family activities that anyone can do with relatively few resources required:

Family scavenger hunt – Depending on your kids’ ages, create a treasure map or hide clues around your living space and let the kids try to find the treasure or solve the mystery!

Talent show – Let everyone in the family display a talent, real or silly. You can even get dressed up and create a “stage” in your common space

Obstacle course – Using tape, soft furniture and whatever other materials you have handy, create an indoor obstacle course for your family to compete in

Family Cook-Off – Many families have limited food access to or unusual foods remaining in their pantry. Challenge family members to get creative and use what you have to make a tasty dish

Another great part of many of these activities is that older kids can help create them for their younger family members! If parents are working or otherwise busy, challenge the older kids at home to try some of these out for the little ones!
