Paw Prints – October 12

Indigenous People’s Day: The Curley School will be closed on Monday, October 12, 2020 in observance of indigenous people’s day.

Attendance School Year 20-21: Attendance will be taken daily across a student’s school day. Attendance will be taken in each course/content area (including specials like gym, dance, art, music). Students must participate in synchronous and asynchronous work throughout the day to be considered present. Participation and work submission are all a part of a students grade at the end of each trimester.

Synchronous work: Present for all synchronous learning time and all work must be submitted by the due date.

  • Demonstrating participation in synchronous time could look like one or more of the following:  (It is not a requirement that students show their face on Zoom)
    • Show your face
    • Respond in the chat
    • Unmic and verbally share
    • Sharing work live (i.e. padlet, interactive tool)

Asynchronous work: Work assigned to students to demonstrate understanding of material not requiring real time participation

  • Demonstrating participation in asynchronous time is submitting all assigned tasks by the due date.

Face Mask Design Contest: Calling all design artists! For this year’s national night out the Boston Police Department wants your creative mask design. You could win a big prize and have your design featured on masks if your design is chosen. For me details check out their flyer.

Fall Open Houses: We had some amazing open houses this past week and there are still more happening this upcoming week. Please contact your homeroom teacher for information regarding time and date of open houses. If you are yet to hear from you homeroom teacher please contact:

*Daily student health screening for parents to conduct before sending their children to school

Breakfast and Lunch: Here is our Menu for the month of October. We are not able to offer hot lunch or breakfast because both of our kitchen spaces are being upgraded as part of My Way Cafe.

CENSUS 2020: BTU President Jessica Tang shared with school leaders the idea of assigning homework to students where they ask their family about completing the United States Census. The Census is important and one of the many things it does is impacts the funding to our schools! Please complete it here https://2020census.gov/en.html and we encourage you to talk to your child(ren) about this too!

Internet Supports: Comcast Internet Essentials – This is the BEST option for those who are eligible. Please have families apply for the free 60 days while we wait for the vouchers to come in. Here are a few tips:

  • Households are eligible for this program if they:
    • Qualify for programs like the National School Lunch Program, housing assistance, Medicaid, SNAP, SSI, and others.
    • Live in an area where Comcast Internet service is available
    • Have not had Comcast Internet in the last 90 days
    • Households who owe money to Comcast may still qualify if approved by 12/31/20
  • Be sure to call the correct phone number (see below). DO NOT call the regular service line.
  • The language of the application can be changed. There is a link to change the language on the top right side of the application.
  • Amnesty for bad debt/past debt forgiveness is in place through 12/31.
  • Families should elect to get the self-install kit first. If they ask for a technician to come and install, they will be charged an installation fee. However, if they call after they’ve received the self-install kit, they will send a technician at no charge.
