Statement from the School Parent Council
This has been hard on the Curley community. Our hearts go out to the families who are battling COVID at this moment. We recognize how hard Principal Katie Grassa and the rest of the Curley school staff have been working to protect and educate our Curley kids. We thank them for their dedication and sacrifice.
We completely understand that remote learning is not ideal, but in the face of the rapid increase of COVID cases, protecting the health and safety of our children and Curley staff takes precedence. We trust the teachers and staff to provide high quality instruction virtually (as they did last year). We have been able to observe our teachers in action on Zoom. We admire the social and emotional learning that is still taking place. We encourage decision makers to observe our teachers as well.
Accordingly, we respectfully request that Commissioner Riley of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) reconsider its “partial approval” of the days, which count toward the school year. We support BPS and the Boston Public Health Commission’s request that all 7 days of remote learning count.
We acknowledge that there are no easy solutions. There are Curley families for whom keeping kids at home is a true hardship. Our School Parent Council and school community has tried to aid all our families since the beginning of this pandemic. However, we hope that all State and City officials keep the health and safety of our kids a priority.
The Curley community is strong and resilient. We stand with all parents and caregivers, all staff, all teachers, and all of our kids. As we move forward, we will continue to support each other during this tough time.
Sincerely,
Curley School Parent Council Tri-Chairs
