MCAS: MCAS testing in grades 3-8 will begin in April and go throughout the month of May. We ask families to make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and arrives at school on time so they can eat breakfast and be focused and ready for the test. Below is the testing schedule.

Ukraine Fundraiser: Our second graders have organized a fundraiser to support students in the Ukraine. We hope you can help us show how much we CARE at Curley K-8. See flier here. PLEASE support our efforts as we gather donations to help the people of Ukraine get the food, water, supplies, medicine and shelter they need in this MOST difficult time. We ask that your child dress in yellow and blue on Thursday, April 14th to show their support. Each person will pay a “charge” of $2.00 for their dress down day. Money will be collected by homeroom teachers. ALL donations will go to the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Disaster Relief for Ukraine to help the people of Ukraine survive…and one day, rebuild.

April Vacation: School vacation will take place starting Friday, April 15th – Friday, April 22nd. Students will return to school on Monday, April 25th. Each student will be sent home with a COVID testing kit. We are asking families to test their child before they return to school on either Sunday, April 24th or before school on Monday, April 25th. You only need to report results to the school if your child is positive. If you have any questions please contact our nurses April and Keilah (apumpret@bostonpublicschools.org, ksantana@bostonpublicschools.org )

Acceleration Academy: Several students will be joining us for April Acceleration Academy. If your child is enrolled and you have questions please contact Ms. West at dwest2@bostonpublicschools.org.

BPS School Climate Survey: Please help us get your feedback on our school community! We use this important information to plan for the future school year, align budget items and celebrate our successes. We want to hear from you! BPS has sent you a link to a survey but if you cannot find it you may click here for the links in multiple languages.

Social Media Safety Training for Families: In an effort to promote healthy and safe online experiences for students, this workshop will address the critical topic: Internet and Social Media Safety. Presenters from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, the Children’s Advocacy Center, and Boston Police Department will review popular apps, sites, and games used by youth today, share strategies included in the Stop Block Talk program, and discuss best approaches for talking with youth about these issues. This workshop is for adults only. Live Spanish interpretation will be available.

COVID Take Home Tests: Starting March 7, in addition to the routine weekly pool testing and symptomatic testing, BPS, in partnership with DESE, will begin offering free, weekly take-home antigen tests. In order for your student to participate in this new option, DESE, the state department of education requires parents/guardians to specifically sign up for this at-home rapid testing option. If you would like your student to receive a weekly take home test, you must submit a permission form. Please note this form is a different form than the one you may have signed earlier this year for testing.

Please check your email for an email from “permission click”, which allows you to digitally sign your students permission form. Please note, this email may be in your junk mail folder.

For students who have submitted a permission form, every two weeks starting on the week of March 7th, students will receive an iHealth At-Home Rapid Test kit. Each kit contains two individual tests. We ask that these tests be used 3 to 4 days following your student’s pool testing at school. If your child tests positive, we ask that you report the positive result to your child’s school immediately via phone and follow isolation protocols outlined on the BPS webpage COVID-19 Health & Safety Information / Quarantine Protocols.

Please take a moment to fill out the online sign-up form from Permission Click as soon as possible so we can get your student an at-home test today! It only takes a minute to complete. If you have multiple children at BPS, please fill out a sign up form for each child. You can sign-up at any time to begin receiving the at-home antigen test for the next distribution date.

Family COVID Protocol Visual: We recognize that processing and understanding COVID protocols is incredibly overwhelming. The Curley Family Engagement Committee created a visual to try to support and help families to better understand what is happening at school and if your child tests positive for COVID 19. We hope you find this useful! If policies change we will update these visuals.
