Schoolyard Updates: We are excited to announce that our new fence and gate surrounding the playground is fully installed! To help keep all students safe, families will not be allowed to walk through the gated area until 3:15 pm when all students have left the playground with their teachers. Thank you for your assistance. We ask that you walk around to Pershing road instead of cutting through the playing field if you need to be near the K1 exit before 3:15pm.

Sole Train: Congratulations to the mighty Young Soles of the Curley Sole Train team for crushing it at Boston’s Run to Remember on Sunday, May 29th!  These students completed a five-mile race through Boston, to the cheers of thousands of other runners and supporters. We are so proud of how they trained hard all year to complete this tremendous goal, and we are so grateful to Alicia Green and Danielle Moran, along with their incredible Old Soles for providing the in-practice and behind the scenes support to make this happen!  Please offer your congratulations to them and the amazing Young Soles as you see them rocking their Sole Train swag! And check out these fun photos from the event!

Chromebook Collection: Please be sure your child’s chromebook AND charger are returned to school this week.

Attention Families of Current Grade 5 and 7 Students wishing to be considered for Boston Exam Schools: Beginning in June 2022, MAP Growth will be used as the admissions test requirement for students applying to the Boston examination schools.  BPS schools with grades 5 and 7 (with the exception of the exam schools) are now required to administer the MAP Growth on four additional dates in the Spring to students interested in being considered for the three exam schools.  The test administration process for the BPS exam schools admissions will be delivered under strict testing guidelines and conditions.  For Curley students in Grade 5, the test will be administered on Tuesday June 7 (Reading) and Wednesday June 8 (Math).  For Curley students in Grade 7, the test will be administered on Wednesday June 8 (Reading) and Thursday June 9 (Math).  Make-up days for all students are only offered on June 15 and 16.  Students interested in being considered for the three exam schools must take both the reading and math sessions, and must take the reading session first.

Save the Date for Curley Yard Clean Up: We are asking any families who are interested and available to please help us clean up the school yard on Sunday, June 5th 10am-12pm. More details will come soon but if you are interested please email Curley parent Rebecca at rebecca@rebeccaclinemusic.com. Thank you to the many who participated in last week’s Cleanup. We had a fantastic turnout, and we really made a difference in the appearance of the schoolyard by collecting a LOT of trash and removing yard waste. Here’s a link to a few photos that show the results of our work, as well as photos of some of us in action.

Lion King Musical Performance for Families: On Thursday, June 16th, at 6pm, join us for a community showing of Disney’s The Lion King Jr. Over 25 middle school actors, singers, and dancers will transform the Curley auditorium into the African Savannah, as they weave the story of the young lion cub Simba who comes into his own as the King of Pride rock. School shows for middle school audiences will also take place during the school day.

CASP: Last Day of CASP both BEFORE & AFTERSCHOOL will be on Thursday, June 23, 2022, our last full day of school. Please direct any questions or concerns to Erika Mercado, Program Director.

COVID Prevention Support: Thank you for your continued partnership. As part of our efforts to curb the COVID-19 virus we sent each child home with a rapid test kit on Friday. Each kit has two tests inside. We are asking all families to test their child either Sunday night or Monday morning before returning to school. Students who feel sick should stay home from school.

Thank you for understanding and please reach out to our nurses if you have any questions.

Family Activity: For our facebook users, there is a NEW way to connect with the Curley community, we now have a PRIVATE Facebook Group, Curley K-8 School Families!  The group is made up of parents/ caregivers of Curley students as well as Curley teachers, staff members and administrators.  This is a great spot to post information about or seek answers to all things Curley related!  In order to join you have to be a member of the Curley community and agree to the group rules.  We hope you’ll join in on the conversation!

Support for Families with Children with Autism: It is about grants that are open for families who have a child with Autism. https://www.aane.org/resources/family-and-friends/family-grants/

Cafeteria Updates: We are thrilled to announce that we have returned to cooking in our kitchen! There are no more pre-packaged meals! Eat day we are offering hot menu choices as well as a salad bar! Menus are linked here.

Family COVID Protocol Visual: We recognize that processing and understanding COVID protocols is incredibly overwhelming. The Curley Family Engagement Committee created a visual to try to support and help families to better understand what is happening at school and if your child tests positive for COVID 19. We hope you find this useful! If policies change we will update these visuals.
