Picture Day: 

Picture Day is here! We will have picture day for individual students, siblings, and class pictures for 

  • Grades K1-2 individual and class pictures at the K1 CourtYard (weather permitting) located at 40 Pershing Rd. 
  • Grades 3-8, siblings, 3-8 class/individual, and make-ups will have their pictures taken at the Upper School entrance located at 493Centre St.  
  • Siblings will take their pictures Wednesday, October 26, from 8:30 to 9 am. Picture day forms in English and Spanish will be distributed on Monday, October 17th, and sent home by the Homeroom teacher. Please note that students who order sibling pictures use a different form, and the older siblings must bring the form on the date assigned for sibling pictures. 

Please see Mrs. Vasquez at the Upper School Main Office or Ms. Powers at Lower School if you need an extra form. Pictures dates are as follows:

Monday, October 24: K-2 

Tuesday, October 25: Grades 3-5

Wednesday, October 26: Siblings, make-ups, & grades 6-8

Book/Storage Room Volunteer Sign-up:  

We are looking for parent volunteers to help us organize and clean the three book rooms/storage spaces for our Grade 3-5 teams. This work will include the following: preparing bags of books for students to take home, boxing up books to donate, clearing out old materials, working with teacher teams to figure out how to reorganize their storage spaces, and creating an organized book room for new books/materials. The Curley Library Team, wanted to let you know about the Boston Book Festival will be happening in Copley Square, in person, Saturday October 29th. All events are free and open to the public, details are here: bostonbookfest.org.  A schedule of children’s book events can be found here.

Art Committee Meetings: 

Arts Committee supports access to the arts at the Curley K8! Join us on zoom on October 25th at 6:30 PM via zoom

Schoolyard Improvement Committee-Come Plant Daffodils!

We have received 200 daffodil bulbs from the city of Boston to help beautify our campus! Let’s meet in the front yard (Centre Street) on Sunday, November 6th, at 10am to distribute and plant the bulbs. Note: It can be helpful to use a bulb planter like this one (link), though a trowel or shovel will also work. The Curley has a few shovels on hand, but please bring one if you can. 

Sole Train: 

Come join us for the 9th Annual Sole Train 5K on Sat, October 29th @2pm at Shattuck Picnic Grove in Franklin Park!  Show your support for our students and staff who participate in weekly Sole Train: Boston Runs Together practices by coming out to walk/jog/run, volunteer, or cheer them on at this incredible community event!  This will be the first race ever for many of our young people, so your presence will make a big difference to them. Free pizza and free registration to anyone who needs it! For more information and to register, visit www.soletrain5k.com.

Volunteers Needed for School Musical

Support now during Wednesday rehearsals (next 2 weeks)

  • Taking headshots of each child during casting rehearsal, Oct 26 (3:30-?) 1 time only
  • Moving groups around during rehearsal next week (from music, to dance, to Ms Taylor Knight’s room) 3:30-4:30 1 time only
  • Helping students get to lower school by 5 for dismissal (Oct 26th) 4:45-5 October 26, and November 2nd
  • Checking grade level of every student during beginning (3:30-4) October 26 only

The Curley Performing Arts Team is proud to announce the 2023 3rd-5th grade musical:

       Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim

Into the Woods has over 20 parts, including Cinderella, Red Riding Hood, Jack, the Wolf, and more. We will begin casting on October 19th at 3:30. The production team will double cast the show, and the performances will be in April 2023. If your child is registered, you will begin to receive a company email each Sunday with updates and casting news.

Curley Latinx Community: A Celebration in Song, Word, and Dance

The Performing Arts department has announced its first student performance of the season on Thursday, October 27th, at 10:40 am. This performance is for elective students, their parents, and specialty teachers. For more information, contact Ms. Alves

Curley Website Update: 

The Website Committee is underway with their work. The committee will revise content and reformat the dropdown menu in the coming weeks. We wanted to give everyone a heads-up if you noticed things looked different. We hope to create a staging site (a separate domain that functions as a website but has a different URL) to avoid altering the current website as we tinker, but we haven’t yet figured out if this is possible.  We appreciate your patience as we begin our work!  We’ll update you again in the next Paw Prints! 

District Events: 

Exam Schools Admissions Information Session:

Boston Special Education Parent Advisory Council [Boston SpEdPAC] 

Has a meeting on October 27th at 7 PM. Please see flyer for more information here.

The purpose of SpEdPAC is to provide a voice and give support to families of children with special needs. We are a multi-lingual, multi-cultural, council made up exclusively of parent volunteers. We work actively with the Boston Public Schools system to ensure that children get the services and support they need to develop to their full potential. All families are welcome and encouraged to participate. 

The Mind Matters: 

A workshop series providing educational resources and community support for families with young children to help foster learning at home. See attached flyer for more information. 

After-School Opportunities:

  • Tenacity Grades 6-8 – Tenacity’s Ace Academy is an intensive program for students in grades 6-8 that focuses on improving students’ academic, tennis, and fitness skills, while simultaneously nurturing social/emotional development and engaging families. Tenacity has been at the Curley K-8 for over 10 years and is a FREE after-school program Monday-Thursday from 3-6 pm and Fridays from 3-5 pm.
