COVID-19 and Flu Update:

We have seen an increase in respiratory illnesses, including flu and COVID-19 cases, in our school this week. Please keep your student home if they feel sick, including if they have a fever. Masking is strongly encouraged for all, good hand hygiene is important and don’t forget to get vaccinated! You can get your free flu and covid vaccine for the whole family at the bolling building this weekend (2300 Washington St. Roxbury) from 12pm to 8pm – walk-ins are welcome!

Please also make sure you use your COVID test on Sunday evening or Monday morning before returning to school, regardless if your student is experiencing symptoms or not.

Thank you for helping to keep our school healthy and safe!

School Site Council (SSC):

Curley is hosting the School Site Council meeting via zoom Tuesday, November 8th, at 5:30 PM.

Book/Storage Room Volunteer Sign-up:

We are looking for parent volunteers to help us organize and clean the three book rooms/storage spaces for our Grade 3-5 teams. This work will include the following: preparing bags of books for students to take home, boxing up books to donate, clearing out old materials, working with teacher teams to figure out how to reorganize their storage spaces, and creating an organized book room for new books/materials. If you are interested, please fill out the following form: here

Library Curley Team:

Please read the Welcome Letter from Curley’s very own librarians. Read letter here

Schoolyard Improvement Committee:

This Sunday, November 6th, was supposed to be a daffodil planting day. However, the daffodils shipment has yet to arrive, so we will schedule another day for planting once we have the bulbs in hand. No SIC event will occur this Sunday (despite what the well-intentioned Curley November calendar says).

Our monthly cleanup will occur on the third Sunday of the month, November 20th, from 10 am-12noon. Let’s make it a bake sale as well! Details to follow.

Our monthly planning meeting will take place over Zoom next Tuesday, November 8th, from 8-8:30 pm. Join us! Share your questions and concerns.

The Poured-In-Place surfacing that was coming to the Curley from BPS Facilities this fall has been canceled due to budget constraints.

We (SIC) are applying for a CPA grant of $1 million to rehabilitate the Curley playground and asphalt recreation areas. Part of our proposal includes poured-in-place rubber surfacing throughout the play area. We will find out if we will be awarded the funds in the spring. If awarded, community design meetings would take place during fall 2023, and the construction would be finalized before the start of school in September 2024.

Arts Committee:

Save the date for the Potluck and Paint Night on Thursday, December 8th. More details to come.

The Curley Performing Arts Team is proud to announce the 2023 3rd-5th grade musical:

Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim

Into the Woods has over 20 parts, including Cinderella, Red Riding Hood, Jack, the Wolf, and more. We will begin casting on October 19th at 3:30. The production team will double cast the show, and the performances will be in April 2023. If your child is registered, you will begin to receive a company email each Sunday with updates and casting news.

Your Production Team,

Kim Taylor Knight (Director), Emanuela Alves (Music Director), Erin Doherty (Choreographer)

Curley Website Update:

The Website Committee is underway with their work. The committee will revise content and reformat the dropdown menu in the coming weeks. We wanted to give everyone a heads-up if you noticed things looked different. We hope to create a staging site (a separate domain that functions as a website but has a different URL) to avoid altering the current website as we tinker, but we haven’t yet figured out if this is possible.  We appreciate your patience as we begin our work!  We’ll update you again in the next Paw Prints!
