Welcome to the Flying Lion Newsletter

Yay!

::::::::::::

Hello Families, welcome to The Flying Lion, the Curley K-8 student newsletter. Our mission is to bring news directly from students to families, and inform you about events inside of the school. The student government is made of students who want to make our school a better place. We run the morning announcements, the spirit week, and we advocate for the student body of our school. This is our newest project and we hope that it is a huge success in bringing you the information directly from the source. We have two students currently working on the project, but we might expand in the future. We plan to document important moments throughout the year, as well as projects that happen in grades. Welcome to our first edition and here are our articles:

Why You Should Trust Us With Your News

Benjamin Ahumada explains why you should trust us with your news.

Basketball: Curley Boston vs. Green Academy

Safe Parking at Arrival

Hello Curley Families, we want to remind you all that no cars are allowed on Pershing Road on

school days between 7:45 and 8:45 am and 2:45 and 3:45 pm. During these times, buses drop off and pick up students quickly. Having cars makes it unsafe for our students.

Parking is available at:

  • In the parking lot across from the Centre Street entrance
  • On Spring Park Ave (Please remember: Do not park on sidewalks – this is dangerous for the children)
  • On Moraine Street
  • On Lochstead Ave

Please remember to yield to pedestrians in the crosswalks or waiting to use the crosswalks.

The Curley Performing Arts “Meet the Into the Wood Cast & Crew”

The program is excited to present Into the Woods, a musical by Stephen Sondheim, coming to stage later this spring! Each week we will introduce you to the talented members of our cast and crew.

We look forward to seeing you at the performances!

School-Based Inclusion Team:

The School-Based Inclusion Planning Team is a team of educators and parents who meet weekly to collaborate and plan for the implementation of inclusion at Curley K-8.  Together, we are following a district-wide process to make recommendations on the implementation of inclusion across our school.  Below is the process the team will be following.

For more information on what the team is doing, you can check out the weekly updates. Please view the following document: Curley K-8 SBIPT Communication to Staff/Families

Curley Library:

Hello from the Curley Library!

Curley Students (and teachers) are busy here in the Curley Library!  We are celebrating Women’s History Month!  Students are exploring the library catalog with the brand new library computer (thanks donorschoose!). Students will soon be reading about lego and Star Wars characters in the new “Pop Culture Beginning Reader Collection.”  Students are coming on their own and with their classes, learning library skills, and checking our great books!  Please click here for a more detailed update on happenings from the Curley library.

Curley Website Update:

The Website Committee is underway with their work. The committee will revise content and reformat the dropdown menu in the coming weeks. We wanted to give everyone a heads-up if you noticed things looked different. We hope to create a staging site (a separate domain that functions as a website but has a different URL) to avoid altering the current website as we tinker, but we haven’t yet figured out if this is possible.  We appreciate your patience as we begin our work!
