Message from Principal Grassa on Playground Updates

We want to thank all the families who have supported our community to bring a new playground to our school. We’re excited to share that the project has a projected start date of Spring 2025. We will communicate further at the end of the winter regarding the next step and updates. The grant will be used to fund our new playground space. Thank you once again for your patience and support as we work towards creating a fantastic play area for our students!/ Queremos agradecer a todas las familias que han apoyado a nuestra comunidad para traer un nuevo patio de recreo a nuestra escuela. Estamos emocionados de compartir que el proyecto tiene una fecha de inicio proyectada para la primavera de 2025. This week your student learned about the afterschool program Tenacity, a free program to all students and families in the Curley K-8 School.

Tenacity has just been rated as “Highly Advantageous” to Boston’s students by Boston Public Schools (BPS). We commit to supporting students for 13 years, helping youth build important academic, college readiness, and life skills. We teach tennis and engage in physical fitness activities to keep learning fun. See hoe Tenacity works in BPS./

Last year marked our first year implementing MYCAP at the Curley School in the middle school. MYCAP is a multi-year planning process that engages students in authentic postsecondary planning, focusing on their individual interests, skills, and talents through a continuum of experiences. The Exam Schools and Welcome Services teams will host two information sessions for BPS families of 6th, 8th, and 9th-grade students to learn about the admissions process. Please share the following blurb and flyers with families.

“Current 6th, 8th, and 9th-grade students can apply to BPS Exam Schools for the fall of 2025: Boston Latin Academy, Boston Latin School, and the John D. O’Bryant School of Mathematics and Science. These are among the best public schools in the country, according to the U.S. News and World Report, and accept new students for grades 7 and 9 (the O’Bryant accepts a handful of students for grade 10, too). To learn more about how to apply, join us for an info session (with live language interpretation).”

Arts Unbound Festival Arts Unbound Festival on October 19, 2024, at Northeast Arts! It’s a free event for families and individuals, and I wanted to reach out to offer you an exclusive invitation for this fun day full of art activities, exhibitions, and performances.

The free event also includes an art workshop for youths and young adults. While it is free we do require pre-registration, as spots are limited. No prior dance, music, or art experience is needed./ ¡El Festival Arts Unbound será el 19 de octubre de 2024 en Northeast Arts! Es un evento gratuito para familias e individuos, y quería extenderles una invitación exclusiva para este día divertido lleno de actividades artísticas, exposiciones y presentaciones.

Support Local Latinx Restaurants

Jamaica Plain has a rich history of Latino community involvement that has shaped its cultural landscape. In the late 20th century, many Latino families, particularly from Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Central America, began to settle in the area. Over the years, local organizations and events have emerged, celebrating Latino culture through festivals, art, and education, fostering a vibrant and diverse community. Today, Jamaica Plain continues to thrive as a hub of Latino culture, reflecting its historical roots and ongoing contributions.

This week, the focus is restaurants. Eateries to visit and support on Center St. During Latine Heritage Month (and the other 11 months of the year)/Jamaica Plain tiene una rica historia de participación de la comunidad latina que ha dado forma a su paisaje cultural. A finales del siglo XX, muchas familias latinas, particularmente de Puerto Rico, la República Dominicana y América Central, comenzaron a establecerse en la zona. A lo largo de los años, han surgido organizaciones y eventos locales que celebran la cultura latina a través de festivales, arte y educación, fomentando una comunidad vibrante y diversa.
