AT THE CURLEY we strive to create a place where all students and adults feel cared for. To guide our work, we have three school-wide expectations:

We care about ourselves

We care about each other

We care about our school

WE ARE A CARING COMMUNITY.

WE ARE BUILDING A CULTURE OF CARING BY:

  • Consistently encouraging our students to uphold the caring expectations.
  • Teaching caring behavior and modeling caring language.
  • Noticing and celebrating acts of caring.
  • Creating opportunities to connect and celebrate as a community.

WE CARE ABOUT OURSELVES

At the Curley we value self-care.

  • Students come to school each day prepared and ready to learn. They follow school and classroom rules and routines to create a safe learning environment.
  • Students engage in physical activity through recess, theater arts, physical education, and after school sports teams.
  • Students develop healthy nutrition habits. Free breakfast and lunch are provided with fresh fruit and vegetables for all students. Water bubblers can be found throughout the school to encourage students to stay hydrated.
  • Students maintain good personal hygiene habits. Go, Flush, Wash, Leave posters remind students to take care of themselves when using the bathroom.

WE CARE ABOUT EACH OTHER

At the Curley we value positive relationships.

  • Students greet others by smiling and saying hello. A greeting is the first step in building a positive relationship.
  • Students in grades K-5 participate in Open Circle. This curriculum develops children’s social and emotional skills, including empathy, cooperation and conflict resolution.
  • Students attend a monthly Curley Share. Curley Shares are a time to gather as a community, share learning and give students awards for caring behavior.
  • Students connect with their buddy classrooms bimonthly. Big/Little Buddies build cross grade relationships allowing older students to be role models for younger students.

WE CARE ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

At the Curley we value clean and inviting spaces.

  • Classroom environments are clean, organized and arranged to support a variety of learning needs. Classroom walls display student work and resources to support learning.
  • Bulletin boards are windows into the learning happening in classrooms. Current projects and units of study are reflected in the writing and work displayed.
  • Shared spaces are cared for by our students and custodians. Student designed murals fill the hallways and auditorium creating a bright, welcoming environment.
  • Keep It Clean Curley encourages the community to keep our indoor and outdoor campus free of litter. Big/Little Buddies work together to care for designated outdoor spaces.
