Help needed for “Walk to School Day”, Wednesday October 6:

Next week the Curley will be participating in Walk to School Day next Wednesday, October 6. We are looking for an adult to lead families on one of the three routes our “walking school buses” will take to arrive at the Curley that morning. Looking for volunteers to lead the group leaving from the Stop & Shop at 301 Centre Street at 7:45 am. The kids will be with their parents, so volunteers just need to make sure that everyone stays somewhat together (basically stop at corners to let people catch up)

School Council: Please save the date for our next School Parent Council,  Oct 13, 2021from 5:30 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. (Rainy day, Oct 20, 2021)

Nov 10, 2021 from 8:00 A.M. to 9:00 A.M.

Dec 6, 2021 from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. 

Picture Day:

October 19th- K1-2 grades

October 20th- 3rd- 5th grades

October 21th- 6th- 8th grades

Make up day will be in the Spring date to be determined. Siblings will take their pictures 1st day (10/19) and 1st thing in the morning (8:30 to 9 am). Students will need to bring their masks and they are welcome to keep them on if they feel more comfortable. We will send picture forms in English and Spanish when they arrive as well as a K-8 schedule for all homerooms.

Curley K-8 Family Hand Book:

We invite all families to read the family hand book from the Curley. You will find a lot of information about the school like absences, outdoor weather policies, bullying, cell phone policies, among other things. You will find it in different languages; Spanish, Somali, Cape Verdean Creole, Portuguese, Hatian Creole, Vietnamese).  You can download it and save it on your computer.

City of Boston’s Office of Workforce Development:

Are you missing your child’s tax credits? Many families don’t realize that parents do not have to be citizens to receive this tax credit as long as their child has a Social Security number. These include children whose parents earn too little money to be required to file taxes, and families with mixed-immigration status. The most helpful resource for Boston residents is the Child Tax Credit Call Line, at the Mayor’s Office of Financial Empowerment. If a parent doesn’t know if they need to file taxes, isn’t sure why they haven’t gotten the Child Tax Credit, needs to update their information, or just wants to talk to a real person to get their Child Tax Credit questions answered they should call (617) 356-8109 and leave a message for Lynn. Lynn can walk people through using the Child Tax Credit portals.

Arrival and dismissal times:

Students arriving at school with time to spare have the luxury of settling in, preparing their class materials and focusing their minds on the lessons to come. They have all the time they need to literally and figuratively wake up. Showing up on time can ameliorate the often-jarring transitioning between sleepy rides on a bus to concentrating on the day’s first lessons. Students showing up to class in the middle of a lesson miss out on this natural transition period and may lose even more of the lesson as they scurry to settle into an academic focus. This ultimately contributes to the lower grades and graduation rates associated with chronic tardiness (Bill Reynols). As we read how important it is for students to arrive on time at school, we would like to remind all families that school starts at 8:15 A.M. with that being said, all students should be in their classrooms by 8:30 A.M.  

We also want to remind parents that we are NOT going to allow any early dismissal after 2:30 P.M. because it is disruptive to learning time at the end of the school day and often as teachers are beginning to transition students for dismissal. If a family needs to dismiss their child early from school we ask that they do so before 2:30pm. If a parent comes to school to ask for his or her child after 2:30 P.M. the parent will have to wait until 3:00 P.M. for the student to come out with the whole group.

Necesitamos voluntarios para el “Día de Caminar a la Escuela”, miércoles 6 de Octubre:

La semana que viene Curley participará en el Día de Caminar a la Escuela el próximo miércoles 6 de octubre. Estamos buscando un adulto para guiar a las familias en una de las tres rutas que tomarán nuestros “autobuses escolares a pie” para llegar al Curley esa mañana. Buscamos voluntarios para liderar el grupo que sale de Stop & Shop en 301 Center Street a las 7:45 am. Los niños estarán con sus padres, por lo que los voluntarios sólo deben asegurarse de que todos permanezcan un poco juntos (básicamente se detienen en las esquinas para que la gente pueda alcanzar a los que se atrasan)

Consejo Escolar de Padres: Nuestra siguientes juntas de Consejo de Padres de la Escuela va a ser el 13 de octubre de 2021 a partir de las 5:30 p.m. hasta las 6:30 p.m. (Día lluvioso, 20 de octubre de 2021). 

10 de noviembre de 2021 desde las 8:00 A.M. hasta las 9:00 a. m.

19 de octubre- grados K1-2

El día de recuperación será en la fecha de primavera, la fecha esta por determinar. Los hermanos (as)  tomarán sus fotos el 1er día (19/10) y en la 1ª hora de la mañana (8:30 a 9 am). Los estudiantes deberán traer sus máscaras y pueden mantenerlas puestas si se sienten más cómodos. Enviaremos formularios de la fotografías en inglés y español cuando lleguen, así como un horario K-8 para todos los salones.

Manual familiar de Curley K-8:

Invitamos a todas las familias a leer el manual familiar de Curley. Encontrará mucha información sobre la escuela como ausencias, políticas de clima al aire libre, intimidación (bullying), políticas de teléfonos celulares, entre otras cosas. Lo encontrarás en diferentes idiomas; Español, Somalí, Criollo caboverdiano, Portugués, Criollo Hatiano, Vietnamita). Puede descargarlo y guardarlo en su computadora.

¿Les falta el dinero fiscal de su hijo? Muchas familias no se dan cuenta de que los padres no tienen que ser ciudadanos para recibir este crédito fiscal siempre que su hijo tenga un número de seguro social. Estos incluyen a los niños cuyos padres ganan muy poco dinero para que se les requiera declarar impuestos y familias con estatus migratorio mixto. Mochilas Escolares Gratis!

Horarios de llegada y salida:

Los estudiantes que llegan a la escuela con tiempo de sobra tienen el lujo de instalarse, preparar sus materiales de clase y concentrar sus mentes en las lecciones por venir. Tienen todo el tiempo que necesitan para despertar literal y figurativamente. Llegar a tiempo puede mejorar la transición a menudo discordante entre viajes somnolientos en un autobús y concentrarse en las primeras lecciones del día. Los estudiantes que llegan a clase en medio de una lección se pierden este período de transición natural y pueden perder aún más de la lección a medida que se apresuran a establecerse en un enfoque académico. En última instancia, esto contribuye a tener malas calificaciones y a poder graduarse, todo esto asociado con las tardanzas crónicas (Bill Reynols). Mientras leemos lo importante que es para los estudiantes llegar a tiempo a la escuela, nos gustaría recordarles a todas las familias que la escuela comienza a las 8:15 A.M.
